I hate morning sickness. And I know that you do too! If you weren't, you wouldn't be hear reading this now would you?
But the thing is, no matter how much we hate waking up feeling nauseated and with the urge to rush to the bathroom to throw up, it is a fact of life. Almost all pregnant women go through this (a small percentage of women though were found to have never experienced morning sickness! Lucky mommies, eh?) and sometimes, some of them are fortunate enough to have extreme morning sickness.
I'm sure that you've read tons of tips about this problem- some bizarre and some are just plain weird. So I took the time to gather all the basics and tried-and-tested techniques to face morning sickness. But before we go on these methods, let's start first with what morning sickness is.
The 101
There are many theories as to what exactly causes it. It is quite sad (and weird) that science hasn't given us any clear explanation yet. So what we'll do now is to just enumerate the most logical and most popular reasons.
The first usual theory why a woman experience nausea and vomiting in the early stage of pregnancy is because of the sudden change of hormone production. This hormone is called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCg) and is believed to be the culprit for causing nausea or the ill feeling that we get.
Some studies also suggest that it's the overproduction of estrogen that causes this problem. And according to some studies, this overproduction also leads to a more sensitive sense of smell- which leads to nausea.
How to Lessen It
Okay, you know I will mention it so let me just blurt it out right now: ginger.
The ginger root has been a known solution for this pregnant-woman-problem for ages. It has been around before pills and modern medicine. It used to be dismissed as an old wives tale but recently, it has been backed up by the western medical community.
It has also many variants now! Because, it's really not for everyone's taste buds. So today there are ginger supplements you can take and there are many ginger recipes out there that you can try.
And a sure-fire way to keep the nausea at bay is to stay hydrated. Water, water and more water! This has been a tried-and-tested way to reduce morning sickness and I can attest to that. Here's the deal: drinking water makes your body feel like you have a full stomach. An empty stomach gives you a dizzy/lightheaded feeling. See where I'm going?
In relation to drinking water, you should also have some crackers or candy always readily available for you--- at all times. Anytime that you can feel nausea coming up, just have a bite of your cracker and for sure, you'll feel better.
